If you can play a few chords, keep time or hold a tune, that’s about all you need. Guitarists, drummers, bass players, keyboard players, saxophonists, singers....everyone is welcome, except professionals!
How does the Weekend Warrior Program work?
The Jam
Every Weekend Warrior Program starts with a jam session and all you need do is turn up! At the jam you will get to know the coach, some of the store staff, other warriors that have completed previous programs and others like yourself who are interested in participating in the program. You’ll also get the chance to have some fun and play…and don’t worry about being nervous because almost everyone is! We provide top quality PA, drum set, guitars, keyboards and amps for the jam. You’re welcome to bring a guitar or bass if you like but to keep things easier for everyone it’s best to use the supplied amps, kit and keyboards. There is no obligation to do the program if you come to the jam, and the jam is only for those interested in participating in the Weekend Warriors program. There is no charge for the jam.
After the Jam
After the jam the coach will put together up to five bands after assessing styles, standards, rehearsal time availability, etc. The coach will then call a short meeting to announce the bands’ make up, agree on a rehearsal schedule and start discussions on a set-list.
Rehearsals
Every band will have a weekly 2 hour rehearsal for 4 weeks with the coach. Rehearsals are designed by the coach to be as effective as possible so punctuality and reliability are essential once the program is agreed. We hope that you’ll be vibed enough to use your spare time during the week to learn the songs. As per the jam, all gear is provided.
The Big Gig!
The big gig is all about you! It gives you the opportunity to show your friends, family and workmates what you’ve been up to and you’ll amaze them (and probably yourself) with how far you’ve come during the program. These gigs always have a great crowd and are a completely realistic rock experience. We organise the band venue, professional PA and lighting, in additional to the guitars, amps, keyboards, mics and drum kit. There is a cover charge of between $10-$12 (depending on the venue) for everyone attending except the band members, with profits going to charity.
What's the Cost?
The fee of $300 fee covers everything – the gear you use, the coaching, the rehearsals and the final gig. We ask, along with your commitment to the program, to be paid up before the first rehearsal.
Interested?
Click here and leave your details and we’ll keep in touch with you and let you know about new programs coming up or final gigs for other programs. There are occasions when we have too many people registering for a particular round of Weekend Warriors and on these occasions priority is given to those that have registered first. So make sure you don't miss out - register your interest in becoming a Weekend Warrior as soon as possible!
Is there a Weekend Warrior Program operating in your area or State?
We currently operate programs in Brisbane, Maroochydore and Southport in Qld; in Alexandria, Newcastle and Mona Vale in NSW; and in Melbourne, Flemington, Kew and Blackburn in VIC.
If you’re interested in doing the program but we don’t currently have a program operating in your area or your State, register anyway and we’ll keep you up to date as we extend the program further.
