In 1992, John Blackwell Jnr. studied at Berklee College of Music (USA) and then landed the drum chair with legendary funk group, Cameo. In 1988, Blackwell moved to LA and played on Patti LaBelle’s Grammy winning recording: “Live! One Night Only”. In ‘99, John met Prince and Sly & the Family Stone’s bassist, Larry Graham, at a Patti Labelle concert. Blackwell then began to travel to Minneapolis, on a regular basis, to jam with Prince. In 2000, John performed in Japan with teen pop sensation, Utada Hikaru and officially joined Prince and the New Power Generation later that year. John’s grooves can be heard on Prince’s The Rainbow Children, N.E.W.S. and the certified double-platinum album, Musicology. He has graced the cover of numerous publications including Rhythm (UK) and Modern Drummer (USA), and has performed at every major worldwide drum festival. Currently on Prince’s W2 Australia tour, John continues to be the spectacular and funkified force behind Prince’s NPG. Blackwell must be seen to be believed. Xperience the new generation!

Jazzin' Up The Mall has become a major musical event, showcasing school music ensembles from all over Queensland. Our 2011 program stopped mall traffic and 2012 is shaping up to be even more impressive.
More than 1000 instrumentalists will perform in the Queen St Mall in front of audiences and a leading commentary panel.

The Melbourne School Band Festival is one the nation’s biggest and most prestigious events for school musicians. Nearly 10,000 students participated in 2011, coming from metropolitan and country Victoria, as well as interstate.
The Melbourne School Strings Festival provides performance opportunities for all levels of string orchestras as well as Symphony Orchestras.

Now in its fifth year, Play Like A Girl sessions are held on the last Tuesday night of each month from February through to November at The Wesley Anne, Northcote VIC
Each session features a special guest artist, who performs a set from 7.30pm to 8.00pm. After the guest artist's set, other women musicians who wish to perform can go on stage for up to two songs each either solo or jam with other musicians.
