Konrad Park - Chapman Stick Lessons
Konrad aka Stickrad, is a Chapman Stick artist who in 5 short years, has contributed greatly to the Stick community. He is a naturally gifted teacher and communicator, having taught drums for over 25 years, and has put that same energy into providing opportunities for Stick students and performers.
‘The Stick is incredible as a solo instrument or in an ensemble, and is really easy to learn. Many people look at all the strings and say to themselves, that’s gotta be difficult, but it’s exactly the opposite. Thanks to the uniform 5ths/4ths tuning, even complex chord shapes become easy to recognise.’
As co-artistic director of Southern Stick Events, Konrad has brought Bob Culbertson, one of Emmett Chapman’s first students, to Australia twice since 2007, for the Stick weekend seminars, culminating in a Stick Night concert.
‘The Stick is an amazing writing tool, especially for drummers. Listen to the powerful bass range mixed with dense mids and singing highs. The Stick is incredibly dynamic, and you will be inspired to play rhythm melody and harmony in new and exciting ways.’
