The music products industry employs in the region of 5,000 people in a variety of occupations in the retail, wholesale, manufacturing, distribution and logistic fields.

AMG has embarked on an interesting and unique stage of its development with the recent merger of AMG and Allans Music. Most of our employees start off as customers. They apply for a job with AMG as an opportunity to work in an industry that they love and because music is their life. The chance to help our customers, share knowledge and provide excellent customer service has been described as a rewarding experience.
All AMG employees participate in bi-annual performance and development reviews which are designed to provide an opportunity for managers and employees to talk openly about work performance, job aspirations and training & development. All employees have individual development plans so employees have the opportunity to gain additional skills and develop both professionally and personally.
At AMG employees are provided with regular feedback within a supportive environment and this is why our employees say they have a great working relationship with their manager. Most development conversations are informal and relaxed so that employees feel comfortable to raise any concerns and highlight any development areas and to provide two-way feedback and communication.
Wholesale & Support Office
Many employees who join AMG both in our support office and Wholesale businesses have extensive experience in both the industry and their chosen field. They bring a wealth of knowledge with them and this knowledge is generally imparted on to new employees through on-the-job training.
Retail Stores
Allans Music + Billy Hyde offers industry leading training and provides development for employees throughout their time with the organisation. We understand that employees feel a little overwhelmed in their first few months of employment and we work hard to provide our new retail employees with the learning and development. All retail employees undertake a comprehensive induction program to provide employees with the know-how to perform and become confident in their roles.
A clear development pathway is provided for retail employees and they have the opportunity to progress and actively participate in valuable training. Some examples of these training programs are on the job learning, morning meeting training sessions, coaching with a supportive manager, product training, advanced sales training and management development training. Our knowledgeable employees and managers are also available to successfully train and develop our staff along the way.

We offer the world's biggest and most respected brands, showcasing a broad range of guitars & amps, pianos, keyboards, drums & percussion, brass & woodwind, strings as well as sheet music, books and videos from the world’s leading publishers.. In fact if it has to do with making music we stock it. Together with the National Education team online sales team and our music teaching Academies the Allans Music+ Billy Hyde brand supports a range of customers keeping tha passion for music alive and well no matter what the age.

Music Link Australia / Musiclink Orchestral Supplies / Intermusic Distribution
The wholesale business Musiclink Australia, Musiclink Orchestral supplies and Intermusic distribution boast a range of internationally respected brands such as Pearl, Zildjian, Line 6, Korg, DW, Remo, Ampeg, just to name a few. With in excess for 300 dealers nationally, our Wholesale business sets the standard in the Australian market. Our brands are endorsed by such Aussie artists such as Living End, Kiss Chasy, The Beautiful Girls ,Crowded House, Lucius Borich and many more.
Billy Hyde Stage Systems
Billy Hyde Stage systems is a brand that is synonymous with excellence in the backline business. Music festivals such as Big day Out, Splendour in the Grass and many more have confidence in the team as being the best in the business. In fact, if it’s a major event or artists tour Stage Systems is likely to have provided the gear.
AMG is steeped in heritage. In the 1850's Joseph Wilkie and George Allan set up a music warehouse in Melbourne's Collins Street, catering for a population of just 20,000. This effectively was the start of Allans Music - and the story embraces the musical history of Australia.
Far more than just a ‘seller' of musical instruments, the Collins Street store became a musical Mecca for the talented and famous – Dame Nellie Melba took her early lessons at Allans! The modern Allans Music had evolved to a full line instrument retailer with large downtown music showcases in Australia’s major cities.
The Billy Hyde brand started out in the early 1960’s when a talented drummer by the name of Billy Hyde began distributing drum and percussion brands in Flemington, Victoria.
Billy was a young drummer who began his career during the depression of the early 30’s, carting his drums in all weather on trams and trains to gigs. An enormously talented and natural musician, Billy quickly became Australia’s “first call” drummer. Symphony orchestras, radio & television shows, recording sessions and major artists all benefited from his musicality and enthusiasm.
Billy was renowned for continually developing new ideas. During the 50’s, he created the world’s first Tube Steel Practice Kit, and during the 60’s, he designed and started manufacturing the Billy Hyde Moulded Practice Pad that is still to this day used worldwide. This example of talent, creativity and inspiration is the cornerstone of our business, and something we continue to respect and encourage
The two business came together in 2010, becoming Australia’s leading wholesaler and retailer in musical products and services. The organisation is now one of the most recognisable national brands in music.
At AMG we are committed to encouraging and supporting music making at all levels. We actively involve ourselves in activities and sponsorships that assist community based organisations, music educators and events. Current partners in developing opportunities for our customers and music making include The Song Room, Aardvark Worldwide, MusicFest (Qld), Melbourne School Bands Festival (Vic), Ekka Bands Showcase (Qld), Suzuki Music, State Music Teachers Associations, and many many more. Our Weekend Warriors program donates door takings to charities like Australian Childrens Music Foundation and Foundation Boroondara. We support several band contests and merging artist showcases – this year Fed Square uncovered with JJJ and Emergenza the largest national bands competition.
